Little Big Restaurant aka NO Mints!

Visited this great little restaurant yesterday, Balthazar's Kitchen, they're located in the Jordaan on the Elandsgracht. The restaurant is set in one of these typical Amsterdam buildings; small, long and narrow with intriguingly spartan decorations. The food is great though.

What's even nicer is that you can sit quite close to the open kitchen and can see all the food being prepared! The menu is fixed, which means starters and desserts are standardised, for the mains you can take either meat or fishies. We got this little pillar with snacks as starter, all kinds of stuff from garlic-"hangop" to squid and some things in between. Had the fish with shrimps as the mains (they also have some really good housewines btw) and finished the meal with a meringue solid enough to hit someone's brain in. Real hammer and chisel work, no kidding! , but tasty nonetheless. One warning though: don't expect to get mints afterwards, searched the place top to bottom: mints nowhere to be seen!

Summing it up: little restaurant, big on food, no mints!
