Munich, Fire!, a Gay Wedding, and a 10-Euro Birthday Party

Uhm, well, yes, that about sums up the past week for me. It's been a bit hectic really. I spend a large part of the week in Munich, a city I quite like. The city features some great baroque and neoclassical architecture, and I especially like the Residenz building. Some people find Munich, and Bavaria in general, a bit too conservative, but I rather like it. It has some of the most friendly, polite and well-dressed people in Germany, and the thing I really like... the little fruit & vegetable stalls! Almost on the corner of every street you find these little stalls selling all kinds fresh fruit and vegetables (yes yes, asparagus) for a very reasonable price.

What this city does however need and is at the moment sorely lacking are little "achtung, bavarians crossing" signs. They are the kindest people, and I'm not complaining about their behaviour at traffic lights. They all, to me great unbelief, wait till all the lights are green. But. They seem to have absolutely no idea of what's going on around them whilst in public spaces. Completely oblivious. I've had several incidents where they simply stopped all of a sudden while they were walking in front of you. Or that they without any notice decide to make a left or right turn whilst walking next to you - and yes the turn always has to be in your direction. Or, of course, that they whilst looking at something start moving around it, inspecting it closer and start backing up without any notice. Yes, by all means, do please look at that very interesting poster and walk around the billboard three times and then move backwards continuing to stare at the poster to get a better look completely oblivious to anything around you. All of which makes moving around the city, well, uhm, interesting. (Oh, btw, photos of Munich can be found here).

The week was slightly interrupted when I got the news of a minor fire in my apartment complex towards the end of the week. I have an apartment in the south of Holland, which I'm currently renting it out, and I see it as a bit of an investment object. Now, it turned out that it was just a minor fire in the elevator shaft, but the whole thing got me thinking a bit. I can do without these kind of worries. So, it might just be that I decide to sell it before I go on my trip in August...

Friday saw me attending a gay wedding, a colleague of mine was getting married and group of us got invited. In the end it was like any other wedding.

Saturday evening was the time for the 10-euro birthday party - a friend of mine celebrated her birthday that evening, but with a catch, one rule really - all clothing worn needed to be under 10 euro in total! I like these crea things :)

In between all of this I managed to go and see pirates of the carribean 3. The movie was fun, Depp was really born for this role - though to be honest it is becoming a bit too much of the same. Looking at the ending, then I'm afraid that there might be a part 4.
