Why European Tourists Are Nuts...

They are, you know. I don`t know if you`ve noticed, but when European tourists visit developing countries they are at times a bit peculiar to say the least. For example. most of them will, when confronted with beggars in the street, try to run in the other direction quite fast or continue walking quite rapidly in the same direction pretending not to notice (notable exceptions excluded of course). And there is of course a bit of a reason for this. As a tourist from the west, you are perceived, rightly or wrongly, to be cash rich and you can feel, well, rather targeted.

The same tourist, however, who will not give some people the light of day, will when confronted with poor, little stray cats turn all soft. Poor cats... aahhh, etc etc ...and then proceed to give them little bits of food and so on.

One of the most interesting things I noticed then in this respect was an old man. An old man surrounded by at least 15 cats, with a little plate of food (for the cats) in the middle and another plate with some money next to it. "Oh, the money is to feed the cats?" say the tourist, "Well, here you go then" while they hand over a bit of cash...
