Today was the last day of the World Press Photo exposition in the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. And if you hadn't guessed it yet: yes, I had, rather typically for these sort of things, of course waited till the very last day to go and see it. Pfff, and I was not alone either. Lines had already started to form when I got there, all beneath one menacing dark-grey Dutch sky. The exposition was worth it though!
Some very touching photos of US troops in Iraq, the strangely contrasting 06 photo of the year, the photos of the African refugees in Tenerife, and my favs: the photos by Paul Nicklen, one of which you can see at the top of this post. He spent some time photographing leopard seals. And befriended one, who started to bring him penguins...
For those who'd visited the Oude Kerk and took some time to look down, you may have noticed that you were walking on the graves of some few thousands formers residents of Amsterdam.
