Arequipa

I`ve spending the past four weeks or so in Arequipa, Peru. I took another four weeks of Spanish lessons here, this time though I was the only person in class, effectively giving me private tutoring. I actually know quite a bit of Spanish by now: am able to express myself in the future, present and past tenses, got a reasonable vocab, and start getting a feel for the indirect/ direct objects shortcuts. However, the more I learn of this language, the more I just have to start asking myself: "why the %*¡k is everything in doubles?!". Two forms to say "for", two verbs for "to be" and two types of preterite, etc etc - why, I ask myself, why?! I`m seriously considering starting a campaign to simplify Spanish. I mean, why both estar and ser, let`s just use, say, ester. And para and por, what a nonsense, why not pora? It is just as effective, no? And we can also easily skip one preterite... pff, and I thought German was a crazy language.

Only 3 more weeks to go, btw. It`s crazy, normally I take 3 week vacations, and think "ok, nice, a long 3 week vacation". Now, I`m more like "pffff, what, just 3 more weeks left to go? horrible".
